I often get asked about my thoughts on unlocking iPhones. While we wait on any news of an iPhone for Verizon or Sprint, you can still get an iPhone working on T-Mobile by unlocking it. Although previous versions of unlocking software techniques used to be difficult and eliminate many of the useful features that made the iPhone worth having in the first place, developers have many new great solutions. Most are easy to use and they make almost all of the iPhone’s features perfectly compatible.
There are countless solutions out there, ranging from free to expensive. My advice is to first make sure the version you’re using will work with the iPhone you’re planning to unlock. Many older iPhone have been updated to the newer firmware. Any unlocking program not designed for the new 3.1.3 won’t break the newest iPhone 3GS. Make sure whichever solution you choose, that it will work for the particular software you’re running.
Secondly, make sure the solution you’re using comes from a reputable company with clear instructions on how to use it. Many have YouTube videos with step-by-step instructions on how to do it. Watch them, and then check the comments to see if anyone has any trouble getting it to work.
